A Day at the Fair 2014

Growing up in the small town of Woodstock, it’s the small events like the county fair that bring the community together. Although I say "small event," this is the biggest attraction to my hometown. Living where there is one traffic light, no gas stations, no grocery stores, and just as many cows as there are people, the Woodstock Fair is still able to draw more than 200,000 people. Ever since I can remember I went to the fair. It used to be all about the prizes; playing every game in sight to win the coolest stuffed animal. In high school, it was about mingling around the rides on Friday night wristband night. Now at 21 years old, it’s all about the food.

If there is going to be one day you stray away from your diet, the day you go to the fair is that day. If you ask me, some of the best foods are: Italian sausage with peppers and onions, blooming onion with ranch, Ray's french fries, Del's lemonade, fried dough, & Nicholas and I’s favorite, the sweet corn on the cob. Calvin and Hobbes said it best, “Summer is butter on your chin and corn mush between every tooth.”

The food isn't the only thing that brings people to the fair, it’s also the animals. Aka the part I drag Nicholas through unwillingly. Walking through the barns with all the animals is definitely one of my favorite parts. Almost every single time I debate buying myself a bunny. That’s when I am reminded my dogs would not agree with me bringing one home.

The fair is has been an iconic part of my childhood and I foresee myself continuing to go every year, even if just for one day. I don't think I'm ready to give up fried dough and sweet corn just yet.

If I have the opportunity to hold / pet any animal I will, let that be said. I pushed through the line to get to these adorable baby chicks! These chicks were only minutes old and you could watch them hatch in the incubator. They were incredibly soft and so adorable. They would fall asleep right in your hands!

Babies on babies; cows, goats, & sheep... Oh my!

Three amazing pumpkin carvings that had won awards! Am I the only one who finds the face a bit creepy?

The heaviest pumpkin weighing in at 1115 lbs! Imagine trying to carve this one!

Some iconic parts of the fair:
1. Hand painted mirror art. You can watch the old man painting hundred of different sceneries on mirrors.
2/3. For the past 5 years we have had an amazing sand castle artist come to the fair and throughout the weekend they create the most incredible sand art depicting great parts of the fair.
4. If you like french fries, (but really, who doesn't?) Ray's French Fries is the place to go. Nothing is better when you get them fresh out of the oil. Personally, I like them with salt & ketchup.

What are some festivities that are local to your hometown? I'd love to hear about them!

19 Random Facts About Me

1. I feel like Peter Pan sometimes. I feel sometimes like I'm living in my own world; in a good way though, alone but not  lonely. Or maybe I just think too much and have too colorful of an imagination. It also helps that I am a child at heart & I don't think I'll ever grow out of that.

2. I have only a few best friends, but when it comes to real friends quality over quantity. There isn't a dark secret I couldn't tell them, real friends don’t judge and only push you forward through hard times.

3. I am a huge book-worm. At any given moment I am reading or re-reading a book. I tend to re-read books more than I try to find new ones. I also tend to read books extremely fast & will finish a complete series in just a couple days.

4. I have been in a serious relationship for the past four years, including high school, college, and now moving three hours away from each other. I can't say it hasn't been hard, it has not been smooth sailing but it has definitely been worth it. I can't imagine myself happier.

5. I love super sweet sugary tasting drinks. I get laughed at so often for this! When I’m being asked what that pink drink is, yes it probably is something like strawberry lime cotton candy champagne cider. If it means you’ll be an adult when you learn to drink red wine, I’ll never grow up. I never have and never will like beer, my excuse is that it makes me sick to my stomach.

6. My enthusiasm towards working out comes and goes, but I’ve always enjoyed doing sports, so I try to keep it as some kind of routine for me. But that's purely out of wanting to feel good & comfortable in my own skin.  I’ll choose a night out with friends or a night in with my boyfriend over the gym anytime, even if it means being hungover for a week or just laying in bed.

7. I have always wanted to volunteer in South Africa at an animal sanctuary, I will when I can afford to take a month off and I have the means for the travel. Its something I will definitely do before I die and something I am extremely passionate about. Spending time protecting & caring for wild animals practically makes my heart melt.

8. Speaking of animals, I have a huge passion for anything that has to do with animals. You can find me spending hours reading about animals. I tend to watch countless hours of YouTube videos. Most of them consisting of baby lions & cheetahs, as big cats are my favorite!

9. I can't say I have a favorite season, I enjoy different things about all of them! I love the crisp fall air and fall activities such as apple picking and carving pumpkins! Winter is the most magical season, I love the snow but I only love it for a month or two. After January I am ready for the snow to stop. Christmas is my favorite holiday, mainly for the decorations and the family time that accompanies it. Spring is one season I could do without, only because I don't find anything extremely special about it, it's just rainy and muddy! & last but not least is summer, when I was younger summer is what I looked forward to the most, mainly because of summer vacation! But nowadays, its too hot and I don't get nearly as many beach days as I would hope for.

10. I am a Disney fanatic, most people know this about me already. Disney classic movies are my favorite. I spent the majority of my childhood watching The Lion King & Hercules.  I know the words to almost every Disney song & I am proud of that!

11. Along with being a huge Disney fan, I am also a Potterhead (a Harry Potter fan). I have read the books too many times to count, I own every movie & have watched them so many times I know what is going on just by hearing the words. Being born in the magical generation, Harry Potter has been a huge part of my childhood. Unfortunately I have not gotten around to Universal's The Wizarding World of Harry Potter but I plan on making a trip out there soon!

12. I have two tattoos! My first one says Hakuna Matata ( I told you I was a big Disney fan! ) with different animal footprints ( my obsession with animals ) and it is on the right side of rib cage. And yes, I'm not going to lie, it hurt extremely bad! The second one I have is my great grandfathers birthday in roman numerals on the lower side of my right arm.

13. Ah, unlucky number 13. I am not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. If you get that reference comment down below!

14. In the winter I prefer to spend a night in, cozy under a blanket with hot drinks, candles, cookies & a movie. With either friends or family, but sometimes just quality alone time is what I need. In the summer it is quite the opposite, I'd prefer to be out with friends. Either having a bonfire or a night out for drinks!

15. I ran track, indoor & outdoor, throughout high school. I focused on sprinting and jumping. While I was there I broke the school long jump record! As far as I know, I still hold the record; though it has been three years since I've been there.

16. I tend to stick to two drinks, lemonade & tea. Iced or hot tea I love them both. I'm not a coffee person, unless its iced and so sweet it no longer resembles coffee.

17. I'm phone obsessed. First thing I do in the morning is check my phone. Throughout the day I always have it on me and I am constantly doing something on it. I hate this habit and I want to change it although I know it'll be difficult.

18. Growing up my mother and I did not get along. It wasn't until I went away to college that we became close & now I consider her one of my best friends.

19. I was born on the 19th of February & its always been one of my favorite numbers because of that. And that is where I am going to end this post...

The Ever Addicting Pinterest

Whenever I find myself needing something to do or when I'm trying to fall asleep at night I find myself pinning for hours. You can find pretty much anything your heart desires on Pinterest. I have spent a lot of time on Pinterest, more than I'd like to admit but you can easily tell by my 8K pins. Nicholas will tell you he hates Pinterest because I can spend hours and hours on it!

My "Happily Ever After" board is by far my favorite and the board I pin on the most. Seriously, anything and everything I want my wedding to be like is on that board!

To help me fall asleep I often check out the humor page linked from the home page. It ends up keeping me up for hours. Some of the posts are extremely cheesy & most aren't funny or I don't get the joke. But when you find one hilarious post it makes up for the time you spent looking through all the other junk.

Pinterest food is addicting and I've tried out hundreds of recipes, some turned out to be delicious, others not so much. Quick tip: never try (cake/brownie/cookie) in a mug! I've tried about ten and they were all terrible or they exploded in my microwave!

Let me know if you have a Pinterest, I'm always looking for more people to follow!

Monogram Decals

"My sheets are monogrammed, so is my silverware and pretty much everything else I own. My rule is, if it's not moving, monogram it." –Reese Witherspoon.

I love monogram decals because you can place them on pretty much anything! Its a much cheaper than buying everything already monogrammed. My friend Caroline (from East Coast Chic) recently opened up an Etsy shop where she sells monogram decals for a reasonable price! I put my order in last week and got them in the mail on Monday! I was so happy with how fast they came in and how inexpensive they were. They come in different colors, sizes, and styles. If you love monogramming as much as I do I would definitely go check out her shop!

Flower Dress

Hello loves! I recently teamed up with my friend Hunter Kelley to take some photos. I had a ton of fun & as you can see these photos came out great! (Check out more of his photos here! & Also his website! )  I love this flower dress I found at Target it was such a steal at only $14! Shh, don't tell anyone but it was in the kids section! The dress is perfect for the spring/summer months when the flowers are in bloom. My wedges are also from Target, they're super versatile with both black and tan detailing. My earrings are from Kendra Scott, I have worn them so much this summer. I have them in both black and white so I can pair them with any outfit. I've had my monogrammed satchel for a year now but I still love it. The chain can be taken off so it can become just a clutch. I love this outfit for either a casual day or a night out. You can easily dress it down by changing the wedges to sandals and taking off some of the bracelets.

Let me know about your favorite summer outfit!
